What is Urban Growth and Decline?
Urban Growth and Decline: Cities are constantly changing size and shape based on the needs of industry and resources.
★ Urban growth is the rate of growth of an urban population. It is different to urbanization which is the process by which there is an increase in proportion of a population living in places classified as urban: the movement from a rural to urban area.
★ Urban Decline is when an urban area starts losing business and places close down, resulting in people losing their jobs and people moving away from the area. The local economy shrinks along with the population, buildings and public places become rundown and badly maintained, meaning the appeal of the area falls.
